An update/addition to a piece I made in 2012- a year that seems simple in the hindsight of today.
“It’s Baroque: Suite for Lute Sweet for Loot” (2012) is a nightmare video dreamscape starring the Supreme Court, Peter Sellars, and “hysterical” women of yore. The piece is about the Supreme Court’s Wal-Mart v Dukes case. Women, who were paid less at every Wal-Mart, could not legally sue as a class because, according to Justice Scalia, they weren’t discriminated against because “Wal-Mart’s announced policy forbid sex discrimination.” The court said women don’t exist, or only exist through language, not experience.
